Frequently asked questions about oklahoma guaranteed loan

  • Thinking people (who bother to research the facts) hear him tell blatant lies like this and we get upset. What makes it worse is the sorryass media should be doing their damn job instead of working as reelection central for their liar-in-chief ! One More Time for the Bama-Bots, here's what happened "Under the Bush administration, the Department of Energy rejected Solyndra for a loan in early 2009, worrying that the company didn't have good long-term prospects. Yet only two months later, Obama's newly appointed Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced the government would give the company a $535 million loan, funded with money from the stimulus. Last year, government accountability investigators criticized the White House for scheduling a groundbreaking at a Solyndra plant before the Energy Department had even finished filing all its paperwork. "This deal is NOT ready for prime time," a White House budget analyst wrote only nine days before the agreement was announced. At issue are two main things. One, emails obtained by the Center for Public Integrity show that White House officials asked the Department of Energy to make a decision on the Solyndra loan so that they would know whether they could schedule President Obama for a visit to the facility to publicize the loan. Republicans say this is evidence that the White House pressured the Energy Department, or used undue influence, to approve the loan before they knew whether it was a good bet. Republicans also mention that a big private backer of the deal, Oklahoma billionaire George Kaiser, also raised money for Obama's 2008 campaign." And: "The number of issues unresolved makes a recommendation for approval premature at this time. Therefore, the committee, without prejudice, remands the project to the LGPO [Loan Guarantee Program Office] for further development of information," the committee said."
  • Through out life. One learns that fact is truth and truth is fact Not spin not manipulation of information. But incontrovertible FACT. LTM is one of the absolute best at supporting issues with FACT(TRUTH). This is what drives the left crazy. No rubber stamp from this very valuable member of this venue. Thanks to this Gentleman for always being a voice of reasoning. For you Progressives and Sand pounders on the left. He is just as hard on both sides of the issue. So once again, YOU LOSE.
  • traditionally presidents basically keep on with via on approximately 25% of their marketing campaign grants. usually, they desire to do all of them, it is why they promise...and then they locate out that obtaining issues accomplished in Washington is a lot like breeding elephants.... It happens with very much of roaring and screaming. It happens at a severe point. It takes 2 years to get outcomes. i'm specific maximum of them mean nicely, yet no president can merely stroll in and do in spite of they desire, no rely how nicely which ability. And Obama is not any different. i desire he can do the multiple issues he grants, yet after finding at previous presidents, the two Democrat and Republican, I merely particularly do not assume it.
  • Obama's got his clan convinced that he has done everything right, but Bush is still in control due to no fault of O's own, and libs shake their heads in rapid agreement. http://www.instituteforenergyresearch.or... • July 2005: The Bush Administration signs the Energy Policy Act of 2005 into law, creating the 1703 loan guarantee program. February 2006 – October 2006: In February, Solyndra raises its first round of venture financing worth $10.6 million from CMEA Capital, Redpoint Ventures, and U.S. Venture Partners. In October, Argonaut Venture Capital, an investment arm of George Kaiser, invests $17 million into Solyndra. Madrone Capital Partners, an investment arm of the Walton family, invests $7 million. Those investments are part of a $78.2 million fund. December 2006: Solyndra Applies for a Loan Guarantee under the 1703 program. Late 2007: Loan guarantee program is funded. Solyndra was one of 16 clean-tech companies deemed ready to move forward in the due diligence process. The Bush Administration DOE moves forward to develop a conditional commitment. October 2008: Then Solyndra CEO Chris Gronet touted reasons for building in Silicon Valley and noted that the “company’s second factory also will be built in Fremont, since a Department of Energy loan guarantee mandates a U.S. location.” November 2008: Silicon prices remain very high on the spot market, making non-silicon based thin film technologies like Solyndra’s very attractive to investors. Solyndra also benefits from having very low installation costs. The company raises $144 million from ten different venture investors, including the Walton-family run Madrone Capital Partners. This brings total private investment to more than $450 million to date. January 2009: In an effort to show it has done something to support renewable energy, the Bush Administration tries to take Solyndra before a DOE credit review committee before President Obama is inaugurated. The committee, consisting of career civil servants with financial expertise, remands the loan back to DOE “without prejudice” because it wasn’t ready for conditional commitment. March 2009: The same credit committee approves the strengthened loan application. The deal passes on to DOE’s credit review board. Career staff (not political appointees) within the DOE issue a conditional commitment setting out terms for a guarantee. June 2009: As more silicon production facilities come online while demand for PV wavers due to the economic slowdown, silicon prices start to drop. Meanwhile, the Chinese begin rapidly scaling domestic manufacturing and set a path toward dramatic, unforeseen cost reductions in PV. Between June of 2009 and August of 2011, PV prices drop more than 50%. September 2009: Solyndra raises an additional $219 million. Shortly after, the DOE closes a $535 million loan guarantee after six months of due diligence. This is the first loan guarantee issued under the 1703 program. From application to closing, the process took three years – not the 41 days that is sometimes reported. OMB did raise some concerns in August not about the loan itself but how the loan should be “scored.” OMB testified Wednesday that they were comfortable with the final scoring. January – June 2010: As the price of conventional silicon-based PV continues to fall due to low silicon prices and a glut of solar modules, investors and analysts start questioning Solyndra’s ability to compete in the marketplace. Despite pulling its IPO (as dozens of companies did in 2010), Solyndra raises an additional $175 million from investors. November 2010: Solyndra closes an older manufacturing facility and concentrates operations at Fab 2, the plant funded by the $535 million loan guarantee. The Fab 2 plant is completed that same month — on time and on budget — employing around 3,000 construction workers during the build-out, just as the DOE projected. February 2011: Due to a liquidity crisis, investors provide $75 million to help restructure the loan guarantee. The DOE rightly assumed it was better to give Solyndra a fighting chance rather than liquidate the company – which was a going concern – for market value, which would have guaranteed significant losses. March 2011: Republican Representatives complain that DOE funds are not being spent quickly enough.House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI): “despite the Administration’s urgency and haste to pass the bill [the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act] … billions of dollars have yet to be spent.” And House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Cliff Stearns (R-FL): “The whole point of the Democrat’s stimulus bill was to spend billions of dollars … most of the money still hasn’t been spent.” June 2011: Average selling prices for solar modules drop to $1.50 a watt and continue on a pathway to $1 a watt. Solyndra says it has cut costs by 50%, but analysts worry how the company will compete with the dramatic changes in conventional PV. August 2011: DOE refuses to restructure the loan a second time. • "The Buck" is a poker / gambling analogy. Last time I checked, God-fearing Americans frown upon such activities.
  • To accept blame would take morals........ end of discussion!!
  • I live in Oklahoma and am getting married in November to a wonderful woman. On January 15, 2008, I ship out to Great Lakes, Ill. for Navy boot camp. I was wondering exactly how BAH works for me. Do I get Oklahoma BAH or Illinois BAH? And when I could expect to see it? Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
  • https://secureapp2.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem/bah.html here is a link to the official DOD site that will tell you what rate you will get based on rank and zip code. While you are in initial training, your BAH is based on your hometown zip code. Once you have a permanent assignment, whether your dependents live w/you or not it will be based on your duty station. By the time you leave for training, that rate will increase, as will your pay. Most years the rate increases about 3.5% Once your training is done and you PCS to your first duty station, your wife will be able to move their also (exact timing is up to your command and the availability of housing). A tip: **be sure to get travel pay for driving each dependent/vehicle to your new station along with DLA (dislocation allowance). When you first enter they don't always tell you about that extra money. One more tip about money: after you leave for training, you (or your wife) can contact your creditors and have all credit cards and loans reduced to 6%!! This is guaranteed through the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act. The debt has to be incurred before you leave though. Good luck in training and Thank you for choosing to serve!
  • BAH is paid according to your assigned duty station. IIf she lives in southern CA the BHA is outrageous while you are in "wherever" collect a huge chunk of change because your spouse lives in a high BHA area is a crock. The policy changed long before I got out in 03. Seperated/dislocated spouse makes you a Geographical Bachelor and since you are collecting BHA you do not rate a barracks room, unless you want to surrender you BHA and take a room. Or you can use the BHA to rent your own apartment- which is not going to happen in boot camp. You may want to discuss this with your recruiter before you go, thinking that you are going to be raking in the big bucks...
  • YOU DO NOT get the BAH rate for where your spouse is located. The military has recently changed that policy. You receive the BAH rate for where the MEMBER is located.
  • Yes you can do that if you like, but the army will not pay for you to move anything to another home. Also if you are in housing you must clear that first to ensure your husband will receive BHA. Now I could wrong on this part, but I think he will only recieve the BHA rate for where he is stationed since it is capable for you to stay there. Which depending on where you are stationed could be more or less than the cost of living back home.
  • Its been a while since I was in the military, but you BAH is set by your rank at the time and zip code, as for when you get it,its when your spouse gets there it starts..Good Luck and Congratulations on your Wedding, my birthday is Nov.7th.....
  • Once you are married, you'll get BAH for wherever you spouse is located. BAH is always based on the zip code. The amount is also dictated by your rank. Once you get stationed somewhere and your spouse moves there, you'll start getting BAH for the new location.
  • Since your wife will not be with you, you will be getting paid for her to live wherever she lives. The term is called a geographical bachelor, or GeoBachelor for short. I was in the Corps and that was how it worked for me when I lived on base in VA but my wife lived in IL.
  • It depends where your wife is going to be until you guys move after bootcamp. Your best bet is to ask your recruiter or an admin person if you have access to one because I doubt you'll get any authentic answers on here.
  • Beginning in March, ABC News, in partnership with iWatch News/the Center for Public Integrity, was first to report on simmering questions about the role political influence may have played Solyndra's selection as the Obama administration's first loan guarantee recipient. One of the lead private investors in Solyndra was an Oklahoma billionaire who served as an Obama "bundler," raising money during the 2008 presidential campaign. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/obama-officials-sat-solyndra-meetings/story?id=14476848
  • Given that after hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer and private withchunt group money failed to find a scandal in Whitewater (so the pubs had to settle for a little office hanky-panky to satisfy their blood lust) I think you should look for a better example.
  • Yes it should be. More like Nixon's Watergate though.
  • I am a senior in high school and have a 4.0 unweighted academic gpa and I got a 30 on my ACT. I don't have any money for college and I don't want to deal with government loans or grants. I just want to find a good engineering college that will give me a full ride. I've found a few that offer full rides but you have to have a 31 on the ACT and I didn't sign up in time to take the ACT again. Any suggestions?
  • No college that I know of will guarantee a "full-ride". A score of 30 on the ACT is decent, but not good enough to bring in all tuition paid scholarship. I do know plenty of universities that will give a substantial waiver for that kind of score, but it still takes some effort on your part to apply for them. Oklahoma State University (stillwater, ok) University of Colorado (boulder, co i think) University of Texas University of Oklahoma (norman, ok) Kansas State University (manhatten, ks) all have pretty good engineering programs and have guaranteed scholarships ranging from around 2k-8k total. If you want to find individual scholarships for specific act scores, just try googling "scholarship 30 act score" and you will find bundles of them. good luck.
  • A 30 ACT and 4.0 GPA is very good. I think that you apply to all othe colleges you are considering. After you're accepted and filled out the FAFSA, you should decide which college you should attend by reviewing each schools' financial aid packages. Which schools gives you more aid (scholarships, grants, etc.) and which ones don't? Private colleges tend to give more aid in scholarships to students with your stats. If you want to go to a public university, you need at least a 32 ACT or better and 4.0 GPA Many public universities can give a lot of aid because of your stats, but not any around where I live. It could be $1000-1500 a semester/year here and there. Don't listen to that other person. Don't think that because you're white, if you are, you'll get a minority scholarship because you won't. Last time I checked white people are not a minority group and minority scholarships are for minorities.
  • If you're white the black colleges will. And they don't give a crap about your grades. They'll give you a full minority scholarship for being white. They are recruiting white people hard core now a days. They are trying to diversify their campus.
  • you may play college golf, and the perfect way is to attend the IJGA, the worldwide Junior golf Academy in Hilton Head, SC that's in the comparable state in college you intend to attend. • They put billions into the failed automaker in Finland in which top Democrats like Al Gore were investors (http://nlpc.org/stories/2011/10/24/was-a... They did the same thing at Solyndra and bailed out Democrat Oklahoma billionaire George Kaiser when solyndra failed even though investment law requires the holders of common stock be remunerated before anyone else. Looks rather like their first concern is for their own ultra-rich supporters, not the average small investors.
  • The trouble with liberals is just that they know so much that isn't so. The Liberal ideology is a theory , fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and which holds forth beliefs that have no basis in reality. They are Advocates of a policy that empowers a strong federal government to enslave its people with a high tax burden incident to the support of extravagant and unnecessary social programs destructive to both the work ethic among the lower class, and the incentive to innovate and succeed among the working class. Arnie
  • The Obama administration loves everyone, but of course it loves even more all those little people that vote Democratic. The rest of you can wait outside in the rain. It loves most of all their rich friends and golfing buddies, like most Americans are too stupid to see what is going on. Unfortunately they may be right.
  • George, only Republicans are breaking the law when they do things like that. Democrats are different, because they care about the poor, who have certainly benefitted from the last five years, haven't they?
  • Because he does. Why do neo-c0ns kiss so much rich man a s s? Do you think their wealth will trickle down to you faster? LOL
  • The Obama administration cares about all Americans ... big and little ... !
  • Now Whe is an American it is his duty to at least sign up for the call of duty . So if He reinstates the draft he would have to register for the draft as well.I think men who are 18 in high school have to do this. Selective Service is a $250,000 fine and up to five years in prison. Failure to register will cause ineligibility for a number of federal and state benefits including: FEDERAL JOBS A man must be registered to be eligible for jobs in the Executive Branch of the Federal government and the U.S. Postal Service. This applies only to men born after December 31, 1959. STUDENT FINANCIAL AID Men who are not registered with Selective Service cannot obtain Federal student loans or grants. This includes Pell Grants, College Work Study, Guaranteed Student/Plus Loans, and National Direct Student Loans. CITIZENSHIP The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) makes registration with Selective Service a condition for U.S. citizenship, if the man first arrived in the U.S. before his 26th birthday and was required to register. FEDERAL JOB TRAINING The Workforce Investment Act (formerly JTPA) offers important job-training opportunities. This program is only open to those men who register with Selective Service. STATE JOBS, LOANS, AND TRAINING Most states have added additional penalties for those who fail to register with Selective Service. STATE DRIVER'S LICENSE LEGISLATION As of May 16, 2002, 19 states, 2 territories, and the District of Columbia have enacted driver's license laws supporting Selective Service registration. They are Oklahoma, Delaware, Arkansas, Utah, Georgia, Hawaii, Alabama, Florida, Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, Ohio, South Dakota, Mississippi, Idaho, Virginia, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands. What is the Draft? For more than 50 years, Selective Service and the registration requirement for America's young men have served as a backup system to provide manpower to the U.S. Armed Forces. President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 which created the country's first peacetime draft and formally established the Selective Service System as an independent Federal agency. Even before this, our country has a long history of drafting citizens to serve in the armed forces. From 1948 until 1973, during both peacetime and periods of conflict, men were drafted to fill vacancies in the armed forces which could not be filled through voluntary means. In 1973, the draft ended and the U.S. converted to an All-Volunteer military. The registration requirement was suspended in April 1975. It was resumed again in 1980 by President Carter in response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Registration continues today as a hedge against underestimating the number of servicemen needed in a future crisis. The obligation of a man to register is imposed by the Military Selective Service Act. The Act establishes and governs the operations of the Selective Service System. If a draft were held today, it would be dramatically different from the one held during the Vietnam War. A series of reforms during the latter part of the Vietnam conflict changed the way the draft operated to make it more fair and equitable. If a draft were held today, there would be fewer reasons to excuse a man from service. Before Congress made improvements to the draft in 1971, a man could qualify for a student deferment if he could show he was a full-time student making satisfactory progress toward a degree. Under the current draft law, a college student can have his induction postponed only until the end of the current semester. A senior can be postponed until the end of the academic year. The changes in the new draft law made in 1971 included the provision that membership on the boards was required to be as representative as possible of the racial and national origin of registrants in the area served by the board. Before the lottery was implemented in the latter part of the Vietnam conflict, Local Boards called men classified 1-A, 18 1/2 through 25 years old, oldest first. This resulted in uncertainty for the potential draftees during the entire time they were within the draft-eligible age group. A draft held today would use a lottery system under which a man would spend only one year in first priority for the draft - either the calendar year he turned 20 or the year his deferment ended. Each year after that, he would be placed in a succeedingly lower priority group and his liability for the draft would lessen accordingly. In this way, he would be spared the uncertainty of waiting until his 26th birthday to be certain he would not be drafted.
  • Rep. Charley Rangle (D) NY is the only knucklehead to bring it up on the Floor. Then the left would claim it was Republicans because they were too stupid to know that Rep. is the abbreviation for Representative when addressing a Member of Congress. There was even an idiot asking if the Dem member in LA caught with the $90 grand in his freezer would bring down the evil Bush/Cheney regime because all the papers refereed to him as Rep. Jefferson LA in this forum. God loves the challenged! They could, they have the numbers in both houses to pass it. Obama would be in a freaking pickle if he did that. It would be a nuke to a 2nd term. You have to actually be drafted before you get classified. Disabled and illegal aliens 18-25 (the age brackets for now) are even required. Guys getting out before they are 26 also have to register. They did the same thing after WWII. I found my Dads 1945 registration and classification cards. What was strange about that is he had a discharge not just a separation from active duty. Back then they started with 21-35 went to 18-45 for the draft with guys up to 64 having to register. Edit: Rangle did it again? The man is nuts!
  • The conditions in the world will dictate whether or not a draft is needed. If at anytime we need more military than are volunteering a draft will happen! It would not be the same draft as in the past. It will have to be more fair! Both men and women will have to be eligible for a draft in the current age! College deferment could only be used to the person currently in college to the end of the semester! Pregnancy of females would only keep the female out until 6 weeks after the child is born! Economics could not be used, like rich kids are not exempt. Coast Guard or National Guard Service could not replace regular service! IF there is a draft it will have to be across the board!
  • it won't be a question of if, it will be a question of when... when is another country/dictator/idiot going to pose enough of a threat to warrant another military action... We're already spread so thin that if there were an event like Pearl Harbor, we'd be screwed worse than a 20 dollar hooker on 1/2 price night... The draft would go into effect overnight, that's why the registration was maintained over the years... as for who would be chosen? It would depend on how bad the situation was and how many people they needed... My grandfather was drafted twice, once for Korea and once for VietNam...I don't know if the conscientious objector thing would hold water, and I'm not sure if being a flaming Gay would work either... I think if things got ugly, everyone would ae to do their part, including the women here to work in the factories to help with the war effort..... Don't worry, WW III is a little further down the road yet...
  • The only way the draft will be reinstated is if we go into a world war or we are invaded. They will go after the 19 to 24 year old males first then raise the age only after our military is depleted.Yes you can dodge the draft by going to college or moving to canada.
  • Obama can't reinstate the draft on his own, it would take an act of Congress. Anyway, there is no reason for a draft right now because we are still meeting our quotas and there is no reason to have a mass increase in numbers right now. Chances are, Obama is going to cut the defense budget, so there goes the money to train, house, and pay (expecially if they got the same benefits as volunteers) an influx of draftees.
  • He already encourages a "draft" concept of his own which exchanges a meager $4,000 a year in tuition assistance for "public service" - which can include military service. H.R. 393, which is sponsored by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY), would reinstate the draft for anyone 18 to 42, male or female, attending college NOT an exemption from the bill. With Democrat majorities in both houses and a Democrat in the White House...it is possible.
  • good now the draft isn't an option. i think it replaced right into a mistake to fully drop it first of all. it would depart us with lots greater suitable option for people to serve. Nam vets weren't nicely taken care of and color did no longer make numerous distinction. For those people who've served a log time interior the service is conscious its no longer the colour of someone's pores and skin that counts it the guy it rather is wearing that pores and skin that counts. there won't be a draft now yet that does no longer advise it is not reinstated sometime interior the destiny. choose of the rustic is what counts
  • Unless we were at global war there is no need for a draft. Currently there is not enough barracks, instructors, equipment for there to be a draft. The Navy is down to 1 location for Boot Camp and that can take up to a year to go through.
  • not a chance in he**. He is a peaceful man a not a war monger...Havent you learned anything over the election campaign? Just for the record, Canada does not accept ALL draft dodgers. But we took in about 28,000 during the Vietnam War.
